Summary
The School Routes project in Rafelbunyol reimagines the journey to school as a daily experience of autonomy, safety, and wellbeing for children and adolescents, transforming mobility corridors into spaces that support active, social, and healthy living.
Developed through collaboration between local authorities, schools, families, and children, the initiative establishes a School Path Network linking educational facilities with key destinations across the municipality. A central component was a tactical urbanism pilot at IES Rafelbunyol, co designed with students, where the school surroundings were reconfigured through spatial redistribution, graphic identity, and temporary interventions.
Building on a process of diagnosis, participatory design, and iterative testing, the approach was scaled across the network, promoting safer, more active mobility patterns and contributing to a more child friendly and accessible urban environment.
